About Us: Mission & Purpose
The Parkman House & Farm Ministries is a Christian ministry that prayerfully provides local lodging and support for missionary and pastoral respites, community and Christian education including teaching, preaching, Bible studies, and evangelism training, space for outdoor and indoor fellowship, and periodic worship activities including church meetings, baptisms, retreats, weddings, as well as hosts additional community and outreach events.
The Parkman House & Farm Ministries is the brainchild of the late Alice Parkman whose life-long desire was to become a Christian missionary. Unable to fulfill her dream to be a missionary, she devoted her later years to building a non-profit organization that would serve the community and those who serve. The Parkman House (pictured above) was the home of Alice Parkman's beloved grandparents is currently undergoing restoration to provide free lodging for people who are in ministry seeking respite to refresh and rekindle their passion to serve others.
In 2021, Parkman House and Farm was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage based on the criteria of local and state significance for agriculture and architecture significance. The Parkman House dates back to 1850, and the various farm buildings and structures depict rural, agrarian life. Additional information is available on the Alabama Historical Commission website https://ahc.alabama.gov/alabamaregister.aspx.

- A Certified Alabama Tree Farm - The term "tree farming" was first used in the 1940s to introduce the public to sustainable forestry terminology they could easily understand. Farming implies continual stewardship and production of goods year after year. By linking the term "farming" with trees, foresters could communicate the concept of sustainable production of forest products over time. Tree Farming implies a commitment to the land and was the philosophical opposite of the "cut-out and get-out" philosophy of the early 20th century.
